I am Jagger Scott, owner of Dogs With Jag. I’ve been training dogs professionally for over nine years, beginning in high-level protection and Schutzhund work. After relocating to Austin, Texas, I’ve spent the last five years in a traditional board-and-train kennel, training 100+ dogs per year. I’ve also done film and television work, training and handling all types of dogs for high-pressure environments on set. See My Work for more information on my previous experiences.

Why Dogs with Jag?
Firsthand experience
I’ve seen firsthand how traditional board and train programs in highly trafficked kennels operate behind the scenes, not just what’s shown to clients. This isn’t theory. I’ve lived the difference. My heart couldn’t take it - I want better for these dogs.
When your dog stays with me, the difference is cleanliness, consistency, late-night rotations, comfort, daily neighborhood walks, and enrichment time with frozen Kong toys filled with homemade, healthy treats.
Low volume by design
My program, intentionally, stays small so that every dog gets hands-on interaction throughout the day. I spend dedicated 1:1 time with each dog outside and inside my home. This is 24/7, not 9 to 5.
Consistency = Quality
Your dog works with me, and only me, from start to finish. No bouncing between kennel staff, no mixed messages, just clear communication and accountability from Day 1.
Clean and enriching environment
Cleanliness, comfort, and enrichment matter. Dogs in my care get structured routines, mental stimulation, and real-world exposure - not long hours in a kennel. Our dog areas are cleaned daily, have doggy night lights, and are not filled with loud, barking dogs.
Built for real life
My goal isn’t to impress you for an hour on Graduation Day. My goal is to create a dog with obedience that holds up in your home, on your walks, and around any distraction. Austin is one of the most dog-friendly cities in the country, and I believe that all Austin dog owners should feel confident to bring their dog everywhere.
The Industry Problem No One Talks About
Unfortunately, many Board & Train programs in Austin are now large-scale franchises with owners that have little to no hands-on dog experience. There are no real regulations in the dog training industry. As a result, expansion is often driven by profit, not quality or results. There are still some OG board and trains around, but sadly, they’re fading away.
After 5 years of proven success in high-volume, kennel-style Board & Train programs, I learned exactly where that model falls short. To make an honest living in a kennel environment, trainers often need 6+ dogs at a time, which typically limits each dog to about an hour of hands-on training per day - at best. While kennel programs can produce quick results inside the facility, they often fail to hold up at home and in the long-term.
That’s why I built an in-home Board & Train program in Austin, TX, focused on fewer dogs, full-day structure, and reliable, real-world obedience that actually lasts. I’m not saying other programs create bad dogs, but I can confidently say that my quality vs theirs is a night and day difference.

The Jag Standard
Leadership dogs can trust.
Balanced dog training is built on clear communication, structure, and accountability. I train dogs to succeed in the real world, not just in controlled environments or training facilities. Austin is loud, busy, and full of distractions, and your dog needs more than treats, trends, or guesswork. They need clarity.
Why Balanced Dog Training?
Balanced training uses reward and correction together to teach dogs how to make good decisions. Rewards build behavior. Structure makes them reliable. Corrections are used fairly and clearly, not emotionally or excessively.
This approach creates dogs that understand expectations instead of guessing their way through life. Balanced training is not harsh.
Balanced training is honest.
Structure Creates Peace
Dogs thrive with structure. Clear rules remove anxiety and build confidence. When expectations are consistent, dogs relax, and relaxed dogs make better choices. Freedom isn’t forced. Freedom is earned through understanding.
Training for Real Life
I train dogs for the environments they actually exist within - city streets, trails and parks, restaurant patios, around kids, traffic, noise, and other distractions. Training that only works in a living room isn’t real training. Dogs must learn to succeed outside the house, where life happens.
Obedient Dogs vs. Good Dogs
Most board and train programs produce obedient dogs. My goal is to produce good dogs. An obedient dog follows commands when told. A good dog understands expectations and chooses the right behavior without constant reminders. That difference comes from time, structure, and relationship-building, not shortcuts.
Relationship-Based Training
Effective training starts with trust. I work closely with each dog to understand their mindset, behavior patterns, and communication style. That relationship allows training to be fair, effective, and long-lasting. Correction without relationship creates compliance. Correction with relationship creates understanding.
No Quick Fix Programs
I do not offer quick-fix E-collar courses or high-volume franchise-style training. Real behavior change doesn’t happen with one hour per day. It happens through consistency, structure, and daily routines. In my program, your dog spends most of their waking hours learning how to exist calmly, confidently, and reliably.
Owner Accountability Matters
Balanced training includes owners. Clear rules at home are what maintain results long-term. I teach dogs how to behave, and I teach owners how to keep that behavior alive.
